Troopers Investigating Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash in Iberville Parish
Plaquemine – Shortly before 9:00 p.m. on September 7, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle serious injury crash on LA 75 near LA 3066 in Iberville Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 77-year-old Michael Middleton of Plaquemine.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Middleton was driving a 2014 Nissan Rogue south on LA 75, approaching LA 3066. For reasons still under investigation, Middleton failed to stop at the stop sign, continued across LA 3066 into the boat launch area, and struck an unoccupied 1997 Dodge Ram that was backed into a nearby boat launch. After impact, both vehicles overturned into the Upper Grand River.
Middleton was unrestrained, sustained serious injuries, and was transported to a local hospital. On the afternoon of September 8, 2026, Troopers were notified that Middleton had succumbed to his injuries. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash, and medical records will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, as seat belts remain one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash.
